What are the best first letters to guess in Hangman?
Start with the most common letters in English: E (appears in ~13% of words), then T, A, O, I, N, S, H, R. For a 5-letter word, E appears in roughly 70% of all common words. Avoid guessing Q, X, Z, J first — they appear rarely and waste your limited guesses.
How do I guess more strategically?
Enter your current state into the solver, then look at the "Best letters to guess next" section. It shows which letters appear in the most remaining candidate words — guessing those letters eliminates the most possibilities regardless of whether they're right or wrong.
What if the word is very uncommon?
Our dictionary covers common English words. If no results show up, the word may be a proper noun, a very rare term, or a variant spelling. Try removing some wrong guesses to see if you've accidentally excluded a letter that is in the word.
